The quality of education of any nation determines the development status of the particular nation. And no
education can rise above the qualities of its teachers. Quality and quantity are among the basic and most fundamental
indicators of diversity in any educational system. The issue of quality education is one of the problems facing Nigeria
educational system. The paper therefore examines the quality and quantity of teachers in public and private secondary schools
in Enugu state. The population for the study consists of 161 and 72 public and private secondary schools in Enugu state. A
purposive random sampling technique was used to elect 120 and 54 public and private secondary school respectively. An
inventory data indicating the number and qualification of teachers and number of students on public and private secondary
schools was used. The results showed that public secondary schools was adequate and in adequate teachers both in quality
and quantity in private secondary schools. However, the teacher –student ratio of both public and private secondary school
was in line with the National policy on education (NPE) prescribed ratio. Based on the findings, it was recommended that
thorough supervision of teachers, training and retraining of teachers should be more encouraged among others
